A family that remembers itself

Say their names
again.

You probably can't name your great-grandfather — or your great-grandmother. But what if you could name your great-great-great-grandparents? Tell us the little you remember, and we'll bring back the rest, drawn on paper good enough to hang.

Yours to keep — or the perfect gift for your parents or grandparents. A birthday, Christmas, or just because.

Why we started Rooted

Could you name your great-grandfather?

Most people can't, and we think that's a problem. A few generations back, a whole person goes quiet: the work, the courage, the ordinary mornings that led, eventually, to you. The loss is so slow that nobody mourns it. It just becomes a blank.

Family is the thing that matters most, and that blank is worth filling. The names are not gone, only mislaid, waiting in records and registers for someone to go looking. We do the looking, and we hand back what was almost forgotten.

Our goal is simple. We want to bring family, and the love of family, back. A name spoken again at the dinner table. A face on the wall. Proof that you come from somewhere, and from someone.

Off the top of your headNames, rough dates, hometowns — that's all we need to start.

How it works

From a few names to a finished tree

1

Tell us what you remember

Names, rough dates, the towns people came from — even the half-sure ones. Not certain on a spelling or a year? Guess. A $299 deposit begins the work and covers the full research.

2

We research & you review

We trace your family back at least four generations and send you the finished tree to see — every name verified against real records. If we ever can't reach four generations for your family, you're not charged a cent.

3

Keep it, or hang it

Your $299 delivers the finished tree, traced as far back as the records can find, as a high-resolution digital file. Want it on the wall? Add $300 and we print it on heavyweight matte paper and ship it to your door, ready to frame.

Made to last generations

Leave room for the ones still to come

Just ask, and we'll build your tree with a few blank places at the bottom — for the children and grandchildren not yet born. When they arrive, you write their names in by hand. The same tree, growing with your family for decades.

Why not just use Ancestry?

The difference between a subscription and an heirloom

Ancestry and MyHeritage are tools — you pay every month, and you do the digging. Most people sign up, get overwhelmed, and quit, and the great-grandfather stays a blank. Rooted does the work for you, verifies it, and hands you something to hang on the wall.

The person behind Rooted

Why I do this

I'm Aaron, and Rooted started with my own family. I began with a couple of names and a lot of blank space, and I kept pulling the thread — census pages, ship manifests, parish records in languages I couldn't read.

Eventually it all connected: seven generations, back to the 1700s in Denmark, Sweden, Poland, and Scotland. Names my own family hadn't spoken aloud in a hundred years. Seeing them together on one page changed how I felt about where I come from — these weren't strangers, they were the reason I'm here.

I built Rooted so you can feel that too, without spending months learning to do the research yourself. You tell me what you remember. I'll find the rest, and hand your family back to you.

— Aaron, founder

More than a tree — a way to feel it

Walk in your ancestors' shoes

The tree shows you who they were. This book helps you understand what their lives were actually like. For each ancestor, it pulls together the real records that prove your family — census pages, ship manifests, birth and death records — each one cited. Then, for the ones who crossed the ocean, it tells their story in plain language: the town they left, the work they did, how much they earned, what they ate, the trip over, and the life they built here. A printed book that makes you really appreciate where you come from.

The Documented Sources book — its cover, a record page, and a life-story page
  • Provable. Every name backed by the real record — census, manifests, vital records — each cited and sourced
  • The life they left. Their village and home, the daily work, what they earned and what they ate
  • The crossing & the new world. The voyage they endured and the life they built in America
  • Printed and bound as a keepsake, in the same heirloom style as your tree

A few common questions

What if I barely remember anything?

That's exactly what we're built for. A few first names, a rough decade, a town you heard about at the dinner table. We start from what you have and follow it back. You don't have to know much — that's our job, not yours.

What if a name comes back wrong?

We verify every name against real records, and you'll see the finished tree before anything prints. If a detail is ever off, we correct it at no charge — getting it right is the whole job.

How does the pricing work?

A $299 deposit covers the full research and delivers your finished tree as a high-resolution digital file — your family traced as far back as the records can find. If you'd like it printed on heavyweight matte paper and shipped to your door ready to frame, add $300, for a total of $599. The deposit pays for the research itself, so it's never charged twice — and the digital option stands on its own if you'd rather skip the poster.

How far back do you go?

At least four generations — you, your parents, your grandparents, and your great-grandparents — guaranteed. Most families reach further; many land in the 1800s. In the rare case the records can't take us back four generations, your deposit is refunded in full — you're not charged a cent. You risk nothing.

What if I'm adopted, or my family is blended?

You're exactly who we love working with. We can build your tree around the family who raised you, your biological lines, or both — however you define family. Just tell us what you'd like on the form.

What do I actually receive?

A high-resolution digital file of your finished tree, yours to keep and print — and, with the Heirloom edition, a large-format printed poster shipped to your door, ready to frame.

Can I add to it later?

Yes. Just ask and we'll leave blank spaces for future children and grandchildren, so you can write them in by hand as your family grows.

Can you include photos of ancestors?

Often, yes. If you have portraits you'd love on the tree, ask about adding them and we'll tell you what works for your design.

Do you ship outside the U.S.?

We ship throughout the U.S., and can often ship internationally too — just ask before you order and we'll sort out the details.

Is the frame included?

No — we deliver a print-ready poster sized for a standard frame so you can choose one that fits your space. Research, printing, and shipping are all included in the $599.

How long does it take?

Most trees are researched, designed, and ready for your review within a couple of weeks, then printed and shipped once it's ready. We'll keep you posted along the way.

Is my family information private?

Yes. We only use what you share to research and build your tree. We don't sell your information.
